SANTA PAULA THEATER CENTER PRESENTS RABBIT HOLE BY DAVID LINDSAY-ABAIRE
JUNE 23 - JULY 30, 2023
The Santa Paula Theater Center will present David Lindsay-Abaire’s RABBIT HOLE from June 23 - July 30, 2023 on their Mainstage at 8 pm on Fridays and Saturdays, and 2:30 pm on Sundays. RABBIT HOLE won the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the 2007 Tony Award for Best Play. Tickets are $24 for Adults and $22 for Seniors, Students and Military and can be purchased online at www.santapaulatheatercenter.org or by calling 805-525-4645 or emailing
sptcbox@gmail.com. Tickets are also available at the door the day of the performance for any unsold seats.
The cast includes Jessi May Stevenson as Becca, Ron Feltner as Howie, Rosie Gordon as Izzy, Cynthia Killion as Nat, and Ryan Garces as Jason. RABBIT HOLE will be directed by Taylor Kasch with Leslie Hackel Nichols and Jessi May Stevenson producing. The design staff supporting the production are Leticia Aguilar Mattson as Stage Manager, Bill Walthall as Sound Designer, Gary Richardson as Lighting Designer, Taylor Kasch as Scenic Designer, Barbara Pedziwiatr as
Costumer, and Carlita Mead as Props Mistress. The story: Becca and Howie Corbett have everything a family could want, until a lifeshattering accident turns their world upside down and leaves the couple drifting perilously apart. RABBIT HOLE charts their bittersweet search for comfort in the darkest of places and for a path that will lead them back into the light of day.
Heartbreaking as it can be, the play is never grim. It’s too truthful, too spirited, too wise to be depressing. A study of the subterranean passageways of grief, it serves to remind that loss, even of the most shattering kind, can move us incrementally toward a deeper appreciation of what remains and leaves us with an odd sort of hope that even in our
darkest times, things will get better, even slightly, with time. Critics have raved about this award winning play. Entertainment Weekly declares it “Grade: A! A transcendent and deeply affecting new play, which shifts perfectly from
hilarity to grief.” Variety hails “David Lindsay-Abaire has crafted a drama that’s not just a departure but a revelation—an intensely emotional examination of grief, laced with wit, insightfulness, compassion and searing honesty.” USA Today states “RABBIT HOLE presents a tragedy and its consequences with utter candor, and without sentimentality. The dialogue is most impressive for capturing the awkwardness and pain of thinking people faced with an unthinkable situation—and eventually, their capacity for survival, and even hope.” BackStage acclaims “With RABBIT HOLE, David
Lindsay-Abaire has crafted the most serious, simply told work of his career—a painstakingly beautiful, dramatically resourceful, exquisitely human new play.” Show Business Weekly touts “A thoroughly absorbing, profoundly affecting and painfully touching examination of grief.” —Bergen Record. “The highest praise to playwright David Lindsay-Abaire! RABBIT HOLE is an entertaining and satisfying play—it might just be the year’s best.”
