Using various monologues and scenes, the students will discover how to use their experiences and imagination to create a fully developed character. They will learn how to make specific, bold, and inventive choices in an atmosphere of creative play and self-discovery. This class will teach young artists about warming up their instrument, character development, script analysis, emotional recall, pursuing actions/objectives, creating truth in the moment, authentic listening skills and audition techniques. In the Sketch Writer’s Workshop taught by John Webber, the approach to sketch writing is simple: we collaborate. Everyone works to make everything work. You will get weekly writing assignments and will go over them as you would in a writer's room. The mood in the class is non-competitive and the only criticism you receive will be constructive. You have a comic voice, and this class is going to bring it out, fine-tune it and put it to work in the classes and in your material. Everyone will work hard and have a lot of fun. The goal to build confidence that will keep you writing down your funny ideas forever. The class will have a staged reading of selected scenes following it’s completion. Information or registration can be obtained by contacting John directly at hellojohnwebber@gmail.com. Class size is limited. Cost for the 6 week series and showcase is $120.00.
In the Story to Stage class taught by Suzy Thatcher, we will use improvisation and theater games to build ensemble, hone focus, develop listening skills, explore movement, access imagination, develop storytelling techniques, and create characters. Over 8 weeks we will audition, cast a show using a children's storybook, write an extended script, or utilize an original script written by a local student. We will learn about the roles involved in planning and producing a play such as how to utilize the stage, sets, props, lighting, sound effects, costumes, to bring a story to life. The class will culminate in a staged production with an invited audience. Information or registration can be obtained by contacting Suzy directly at suzytothet@gmail.com. Class size is limited.
