"You must provide proof of vaccination in order to attend this production. In accordance with recommendations by Ventura County Health and Human Services, until further notice, the wearing of masks while inside the Santa Paula Theater Center is optional. It is still highly recommended that all community members wear masks indoors because there is strong evidence that masks, especially high-quality masks, protect both the wearer and those around them. Thank you for helping to ensure the safety of everyone while at the Santa Paula Theater Center!"
Joy & Angst can take you on a journey through an emotional landscape - at times laughing, and at other times a bit tearful. Their sound draws on the acoustic harmonies of Appalachia, Americana, and Folk Rock. The original songs of Dolores Britton connect on a deep level with the human experience.
Joining together with Donna Nelson, the two former Santa Paula teachers delighted in the synergistic blending of their voices. They joined with songwriter Dave Ackerman in 2017 to form Now, Then & Zen, who performed the song, Santa Paul Still Stands at the St. Francis Dam Disaster Memorial.
Today, Dolores Britton (guitar, vocals, harmonica) and Donna Nelson (accordion, vocals, ukulele) are joined with Stephen Mendel (guitar, vocals) whose smooth voice adds a richness and depth to the group’s harmonies, and Mark Metoyer (bass), whose solid bottom end makes you want to get up and dance.
This is music with traction. It will take you somewhere.
