SPRING/SUMMER CONSERVATORY ACTING CLASSES
THE SANTA PAULA THEATER CENTER ACTING CONSERVATORY is announcing four classes on the BackStage to be taught by industry professionals who are also familiar faces on the SPTC Stage. Instructor bios are available on request. Acting with Intent is an adult acting class taught by Taylor Kasch running Monday afternoons from 2 - 5 PM OR Monday evenings from 7 - 10 PM on April 21 - June 9, 2025 (Presentation Night.) The Young Actors’ Studio is an acting class for teens ages 12 - 19 taught by Jessi May Stevenson, running Tuesdays from 3 - 5 PM from June 24 - July 29, 2025, with a showcase to follow the last class at 6 PM. Story to Stage is an acting class for ages 8 - 11 taught by Suzy Thatcher, running Mondays from 3:00 - 4:30 PM from June 16 - July 28, 2025, with a production on August 1, 2025, at 7:00 PM. The Spine and the Spark Short Play Writing Class is taught by James James, running Wednesday afternoons 2 - 5 PM or evenings from 7 - 10 PM June 25 - August 6, 2025, with a showcase to follow August 13 (evening class) or August 20 (day class), 2025.
Acting with Intent is an adult acting class for actors of all experience levels and ages. Instructor Taylor Kasch, an award-winning actor and director, creates an environment that is perfect for the experienced thespian to hone their skills or the
beginning actor to learn the basics of acting in a supportive atmosphere. The series includes 7 classes, 1 private coaching session, and will culminate with a showcase performance. Information or registration can be obtained by contacting

The Young Actors’ Studio taught by SPTC’s Artistic Director Jessi May Stevenson, will provide a safe, nurturing, creative space for young actors to explore their craft with authenticity and confidence. Using various monologues and scenes, the students will discover how to use their experiences and imagination to create a fully developed character. They will learn how to make specific, bold, and inventive choices in an atmosphere of creative play and self- discovery. This class will teach young artists about warming up their instrument, character development, script analysis, emotional recall, pursuing actions/objectives, creating truth in the moment, authentic listening skills and audition techniques. In the Story to Stage class taught by Suzy Thatcher, we will use improvisation and theater games to build ensemble, hone focus, develop listening skills, explore movement, access imagination, develop storytelling techniques, and create characters. Over 8 weeks we will audition, cast a show using a children's storybook, write an extended script, or utilize an original script written by a local student. Students will learn about the roles involved in planning and producing a
play such as how to utilize the stage, sets, props, lighting, sound effects, and costumes to bring a story to life. The class will culminate in a staged production with an invited audience. Information or registration can be obtained by

In The Spine and the Spark Short Play Writing Class taught by James James, students will learn the fundamentals of playwriting while creating a short play ready for submission to festivals. Through writing exercises, feedback sessions,
and peer collaboration, students will learn how to develop compelling stories, write authentic dialogue, and bring their unique voices to life on stage. The class will have a staged reading of selected scenes following its completion.
